• Northern Essex Community College - With campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence and extension sites in Andover, Methuen and Newburyport, Northern Essex Community College is a state-funded college, offering over 80 associate degree and certificate programs as well as hundreds of non credit courses designed for personal enrichment and career growth. Close to 8500 students ranging from recent high school graduates to locally employed workers attend classes days, evenings, and weekends. Northern Essex is the only state college located in the lower Merrimack Valley Region of Massachusetts.
   
• Bradford College - After 197 years, Bradford College was closed in June 2000. It was founded as Bradford Academy in 1803. Bradford College was an innovative, coeducational, four-year liberal arts college that combined the intellectual rigor of a practical liberal arts program with hands-on career preparation.
